It was a birthday celebration, a 40 minute short drive from our home at Gulf Harbour to the Takatu Penninsula just east of Matakana Village for an overnight stay at Takatu Vineyard and Lodge. Our winter stay at Huka Lodge this time was a spur of the moment decision, making use of the low season rates which operate from May to September.

We experienced the delights of the Chevre d’Or Hotel by accident. A driving tour in the south of France had us staying a the medieval village of Eze, between Nice and Monaco. We were supposed to stay at Cheateau Eza, but that’s another story (see article “ Chateau Eza, but not with a donkey”.
